Practice Policies

  • My cancellation policy is based on respect for each other’s time and a recognition that life is often unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me as much notice as possible. The full session fee is charged for non-emergency cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, or less than 48 hours for 90 minute sessions. For those on NDIS plans, the latest NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits guideline allows for the full fee to be charged for cancellations with less than 7 clear days’ notice. The best way to contact me when you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment is to send a text message to 0491 807 872. If I need to cancel or reschedule your session, I will contact you by text message with as much notice as possible.

  • The best way to contact me is by text message on 0491 807 872. I respond to text messages within business hours. You are also welcome to phone and leave a message, or send an email to mel@melcampelltherapy.com

  • I will cancel your session if I have symptoms of any contagious illness, and ask that you do the same. Some people who attend my practice have complex medical needs. Not attending sessions with symptoms of contagious illness is one way to be considerate of their safety. If you are concerned about your own exposure to illness during your sessions, I encourage you to do whatever you need to feel at ease, such as wearing a mask, using hand sanitiser, or requesting the window remain open for ventilation. I keep masks in my office, and am happy to wear one myself if this will make you more comfortable at any time.

  • I schedule a limited number of sessions each week within business hours. Existing clients are guaranteed a space for as long as they need. I book sessions in parallel with the school term. I review my availability about four times a year, and open my books if there are spaces that can be offered to new clients. My website is kept up to date with current availability information here.

  • I do not typically keep a waiting list, because I know how stressful it can be to feel stuck on a list that never seems to move. Instead, I open my books when I have available spaces, and close my books when I do not. I keep my website updated with current availability information.

  • At times I offer existing clients the option of adding their name to a cancellation list, so I can offer any appointments that become available in a specific time period. I keep this list very small, as I do not have enough cancellations to offer unexpected appointments with much frequency. However, this can work well for additional sessions, or for people who have unpredictable schedules themselves and are unable to book ahead in termly blocks.

  • I am an endorsed mental health practitioner under the Better Access to Mental Health scheme. Your GP may develop a mental health care plan with you that includes a referral to see me. In order to process the Medicare rebate on your behalf, I need a referral letter from your GP. Your GP can send that to me by fax or email, or you can bring a copy to your session. Under the Better Access scheme, your GP can refer you for an initial maximum of 6 initial sessions, after which I am required to write a letter back to them with a summary of our work together. This summary is brief and does not include sensitive details. You can then visit your GP and request another referral letter for a further 4 sessions. The total number of sessions you can claim in a calendar year is 10. Referrals under this program do not have an expiry date, and are transferable between therapists. There are no time limits on when you can access either a mental health care plan or a review with your GP.

  • I follow the latest NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits document when working with families with NDIS plans. I can also liaise with your plan manager or support coordinator if you ask me to, and can send an invoice for your session directly to your plan manager for payment. If you are self managed you pay on the day and I provide an invoice containing all the necessary details for your records. As detailed in the guide, I charge $193.99 per hour for face to face and non face to face therapeutic support. A one hour therapy session is typically charged at 60 minutes of face to face time, plus 10 minutes non face to face time for paperwork. Short notice cancellations are considered by NDIS to be those with less than 7 clear days’ notice and are also charged at the same rate, however I am happy to offer some flexibility around cancellations and reschedules with more than 24 hours’ notice, as per my cancellation policy.
